I am honored to get to write about this amazing mom of mine. I wish she could make this page herself, but something other than dialysis ended the earthly adventure for this remarkable lady 20 years ago. Kidney failure never won! She did! I got to see 24 years of that life though and am honored to tell you about it.
Jocelyn knew what she up against, but also knew what she wanted in life and chose to NOT let her trials stop her. She made the arrangements, studied and learned everything about what needed to be done, prepared for the adaptations she needed to have, and went for it! She kept her faith in the Lord and determination to keep moving, even when it was hard.
Jocelyn Johnson 1954 ~ 2004
Mary Jocelyn Peery Johnson laid her tired body to rest and peacefully went to join her family, friends, and Father above on March 10th 2004 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was a wonderful wife, mother, daughter and friend and was an inspiration to all who came in contact with her.
Jocelyn was born on May 1st, 1954 in Salt Lake City, Utah to James Keith and Mary Phyllis Peery. Growing up, she made many fond memories with her family and neighborhood friends, which she always cherished. She graduated from South High School and after several years of working she met a fellow classmate, Kevin Doyle Johnson, who was soon to become her eternal companion. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on June 9th, 1978. Kevin took great care of his companion through thick and thin, and they lived a happy life together.
Despite the doctor's orders, Jocelyn was able to have a daughter whom she loved dearly and took exceptional care of. This was not an easy task, as Jocelyn experienced kidney failure when her daughter was very young. She never complained, however, and found joy in spending time with her family. She was blessed to live close to her dear mother and the two were great supports for each other.
Jocelyn beat the odds and lived for 24 years on kidney dialysis. She never let her health stop her from living a full life and she carried others along through her example and her smile. She enjoyed camping and scrapbooking and could tell a bag of popcorn was popping from a mile away. She served faithfully in many church callings including many years as a Relief Society teacher and always stayed close to her Father in Heaven. She was a true heroine.
I have not one, but two amazing parents. My dad was born deaf and has a unique but beautiful writing style. He wrote a talk about my mom when she died that summarizes her life beautifully. I wanted to include it. She inspired him too everyday.
My mom got to wear her favorite shirt in a professional photo shoot to get ready for the brochure. She genuinely had a good time as you can see by the smile.
This is the inside of the brochure where you can learn a bit about dialysis. My mom's spot is in the upper left.
I have so many memories I want to share about HOW my mom did what she did, they are on their way!
